The daunting 6.1 kilometre Guia circuit through the tight streets and harbour area of Macau has held the final rounds of the WTCC since 2005 and is noted as one of the world’s most demanding race tracks. The Macau Grand Prix began as a treasure hunt for local amateurs in 1954 and remained an amateur event until 1966. In 1967 the first bike races took place with the first Touring Car event following in 1972. The circuit is also a famous venue for the end of season Formula 3 Grand Prix which was first held in 1983, the race being won by a young up and coming Brazilian driver called Ayrton Senna.
