Opened in 1986, 20 kilometres north east of Budapest, this was the first Grand Prix circuit to be built behind the “iron curtain”. The first race was held in March 1986 in memory of Janos Drapal, the first Hungarian to win a World Motorcycle Grand Prix. The first Formula One Grand Prix followed in the summer. Built in a natural valley, 80% of the circuit can be seen from any vantage point, which makes it a very popular venue for spectators. This is the first time that the WTCC has been held at the 4.3 kilometre track which regularly hosts rounds of the DTM and FIA GT’s.
