About WTCC
This year is the seventh season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship in its current guise. After the inaugural championship in 1987, which ran for only one year for Group A Touring Cars the championship went through many changes.
In 1993 the FIA World Touring Car Cup ran for three years and in 2001 the FIA European Touring Car Championship was formed, then in 2005 it become the FIA World Championship, as we now know it.
The series is a truly global event with over half a million spectators attending twelve tracks in twelve countries across three continents. Races are televised across the world by 86 TV networks broadcasting to 470 million viewers in 160 countries.
